  1. Oak Park/River Forest's best and brightest high school students will be working side-by-side with elementary/middle school students to help each child reach their potential.
  2. OPRF students will receive training and mentoring as an employed tutor of The
    Learning League.

What is The Learning League?
The Learning League is a community based program that:
Offers affordable tutoring to OPRF families with children ages K-9
Trains and mentors high school students to become coaches

Why High School kids? 

  1. I believe High School students are an invaluable resource to our community.
  2. My experience in talking and working with High School kids has shown me how thoughtful, creative and intelligent these young adults are.
  3. Your child will be working with a coach who has recently been a student in your child's elementary/middle school. As a result, a deeper connection and understanding can be made.
  4. The coaches will have an ongoing training and mentoring process. They will receive monthly newsletters and have opportunities for professional development including but not limited to monthly meetings for the coaches to collaborate and share experiences with other Learning League tutors.  
  5. What will the structure of the coaching hour be like?

    If homework needs to be completed, the first part of the hour is dedicated to homework. Afterwards your coach will work on the area of concern, determined by the initial consultation. One of the three programs will be used as a model on how the area will be targeted, but your child's session will be completely based on his needs. If it is determined your child has no area of concern, the programs are used as enrichment to your child's learning experience.
  6. My child has been told she needs specific phonics assistance. Can you help her with that?

    Yes. Your child's teacher may be consulted and a program will be developed to meet her needs.
  7. What is the initial consultation?

    The initial consultation is a free half hour service provided to determine what type of program your child needs. I will meet with a parent to discuss and determine the needs of your child. Report cards, MAP scores, and any school related data, including teacher's input, can be brought to
    this meeting.
